Same Sex Marriage Registration in Thailand

Marriage in Thailand is legally recognized worldwide. With the enactment of the Marriage Equality Act, LGBTQ+ couples, including two foreign partners, can now legally marry and have their union fully recognized. Thailand officially grants equal marriage rights to all couples, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

To register the marriage in Thailand between Foreigner and Thai or Foreigner and Foreigner is not complicated. If you are a Non-Thai party, you will need to prepare two documents which are a certified copy of your passport to prove your identity and the affirmation of freedom to marry (single certificate) or also called Certificate of No-impediment, to prove that you are legally single and able to register your marriage in Thailand and to also prove that neither party has a spouse at the time of the marriage.

It is worth noting that marriage registration in Thailand can only be done at a District Office (Amphur) and will also require two witnesses and one interpreter to participate in the registration. The marrying parties must show their consent and intention to register their marriage with one another. The District Registrar will then register the marriage and issue a Marriage Certificate and Marriage Registration Certificate in Thai.
